June Grading!

First and foremost we would like to thank Gary and Jane McConnachie from the Kinect Affiliated school the Korean Martial Arts Academy for traveling such a distance to support us in our June grading.

A big congratulations to Mr. Richard Shepherd who attained the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt today after an intense 3 1/2 hour grading session. Mr. Shepherd has worked extremely hard in preparation for his grading which certainly served him well today. A second congratulations to Ms. Caroline Prosser who like Mr. Shepherd endured an intense grading session, Ms. Prosser becomes KSD's first 1st Degree Black Belt after her display of excellent technique and her understanding of Kinetic Self Defence concepts.

All students performed excellently today making their instructors very proud. Watch this space for the announcement of the outstanding grading performance.

We leave you all with a final thought:

"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination."

- Tommy Lasorda

Remember that the rank of black belt is yours for the taking providing you have the will and desire to achieve it!

School Opening!

Kinetic Self Defence are pleased to announce the opening of Canton KSD. As from Tuesday 29th April '08 the Ely school will close at the Scout Hut in Ely, Cardiff. Mr. Bool will be opening a new school at a new venue in Canton, Cardiff. The opening of the new school will be on Tuesday 6th May '08. The venue is located at Victoria Kickboxing Club, Cowbridge Road East, Canton.

The change is part of KSD's continuing development and improvement. The location will be advantageous to KSD as the area surrounding is filled with potential new students and has easy road access from other areas of Cardiff. The venue is a purposed built Martial Arts training facility meaning that it is fully matted and well equipped.

Student Reminder: Safety Equipment Policy

Hand protectives are provided in class and at gradings for lower belt ranks (new students). However for reasons of hygiene the purchase of equipment for a student's own personal use is strongly encouraged and recommended.

To encourage this we introduced a policy on safety equipment that requires all students from the rank of Gold Belt to own a pair of safety gloves. This has been very successful.

In addition to this from July 10th 2008 all students at Green Belt and above will be required to wear foot protection when sparring and practicing defence drills.

Please see your instructor for further details.

International Seminar in Florida!

The Jones' arrived home on Tuesday after paying a visit to our 'martial arts holyland', KinectMAI HQ in Florida. KinectMAI put on a fantastic weekend of events.

The weekend kicked off with the testing on Friday evening, where Mr. Paul Jones graded for his 3rd Degree Black Belt. The testing event was a complete success with over 20 new black belts being awarded in total. An outstanding performance can credited to each and every individual that graded. Congratulations to all.

The Seminar followed on the Saturday where instructors and students from the US and UK were able to gain hands on training at the Kid's Safety Seminar and Women's Self Defence Seminar. After Demonstrations from the Michigan and Orlando Demo Teams everyone was treated to a K-9 demonstration by an officer from Pinnellas County Sheriff's Office. Followed by an intense adult training session, which included groundwork and RedMan training. All of the training ideas were an excellent experience and we at KSD will certainly be incorporating them into our's as well as our student's training.

Photographs of the seminar and testing event coming soon.

It has arrived...
