About Kinetic Self Defence
We are a family friendly Dojang, we do not condone violence, over-competitiveness, or impractical principals/techniques. Our core curriculum was created for personal development and self defence. The techniques are healthy for the body and will not cause any long-term damage; in fact, with a background in biomechanics & kinesiology, it may even help with old sports injuries! But ‘Kinetic Self Defence’ does not wholly focus on this. Another major principal is practical self-defence for men, women, and children.
’Kinetic Self Defence’ was created by our local team of instructors, who have a strong background in teaching and practicing martial arts and self defence. We are affiliated with Kinect Martial Arts International, Florida, a similar system run by Steve and Shelly Elrod, both of which have a strong background with the US Military and Law Enforcement. Nothing we practice is based on traditionalism or outdated impractical techniques. Every punch and kick can be used to defend oneself, regardless of size or strength. We go over all possible scenarios that one may find on 'the street', from stand-up self defence to defending oneself from the ground. Again, however, we are a self defence school devoted to the philosophy of non-violence and do not promote fighting of any kind.
Our classes are based on three simple principals:
- The movements must be practical, natural, and easy to learn and remember.
- The movements must be biomechanically correct in terms of power and efficiency.
- The movements must be practiced repeatedly under gradually more realistic conditions.
Many of the traditional martial arts movements can be unrealistic in actual self defence even though they look very impressive. Our movements are EASY TO LEARN AND ARE EFFECTIVE. From your very first lesson your techniques are STREET ORIENTED.
The name ‘Kinetic’ is adopted due to the fluid motion of the techniques incorporated into ‘Kinetic Self Defence’. Our kicks, punches and strikes are based upon biomechanical principles.
Human movement or biomechanical motion is achieved through the ‘Kinetic chain’, which consists of the nervous, skeletal and muscular systems. All of these systems need to work in harmony if natural and efficient movement is to be achieved with maximum power and energy for self defence.
